NACGB Statement on the Haitian earthquake
from http://nacgb.org/news/?p=26
On January 12th, 5:14 pm local time, the country of Haiti was struck by a magnitude 7 earthquake.
The Red Cross estimates that the quake has affected up to 3 million people and news reports indicate that Port-au-Prince has been effectively leveled.
While it is unlikely we will know the full extent of the damage caused for some time yet- it is enough to know that this is a disaster of staggering proportions.
Please join with the North American College of Gnostic Bishops now as we offer our prayers and thoughts for the Haitian people- and should you be able to provide it, a donation to one of the many charities and organizations that are on the ground as we speak.
A complete list can be found at http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2007/impact/

Statement on the Crisis in Haiti from the Alexandrian Gnostic Church
The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' - from the Gospel of St. Matthew, Ch. 25
On behalf of the people and clergy of the Alexandrian Gnostic Church, I wish to express our deepest condolences for the people of Haiti, who are facing an unprecedented national catastrophe.
Reports say that as many as 3 million people may have been left homeless by the 7.0 earthquake that hit 10 miles off the coast early Tuesday evening. The death toll is as yet unknown, as poor communications are making it difficult to assess the extent of the damage.
Haiti is particularly vulnerable to natural disasters. Political instability, poverty, a series of hurricanes in 2008, and repeated military and covert interventions by the U.S. and France have left the country ill-equipped to respond to a catastrophe of this magnitude.
We appeal to the all people of good will to remember the people of Haiti in their prayers. We also ask that you consider demonstrating you compassion in a by making a contribution towards relieving the suffering of the Haitian people. One grass roots aid agency, which is already on the ground in Haiti, is Yéle Haiti (http://www.yele.org/) - %100 percent of your donations will go directly to relief. (A list of other organizations can be found at http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2007/impact/.)

Support the New York Cares Coat Drive

Did you know that 90% of homeless adults need a new, warm coat each winter because they have no place to keep one over the summer months? But it's not just homeless people who need our help; thousands of New Yorkers each year are forced to make a choice between buying a winter coat and putting food on the table, or meeting other basic survival needs.
New York Cares collects nearly 70,000 gently used winter coats each December and distributes them to thousands of men, women, and children who would otherwise be cold.
The Alexandrian Gnostic Church is supporting the Annual New York Cares Coat Drive - we encourage you to check them out and find out how you can help at: http://www.newyorkcares.org/volunteer/holiday_volunteering/coat_drive/
